I am so thrilled, I paid an additional #500 off the mortgage yesterday. My husband was paid and he earned about #600 extra due to being on call a lot over Christmas. I decided that it would be sensible to put a chunk of it on the mortgage straight away as I have some money going in soon and we had some money in the current account anyway. This means that in January we paid off #2500 meaning that we are now outstanding about #82406.68. It does seem a lot of money but it is exciting that we have paid so much off so far this year!

Buying Techy Stuff
What is it with men and buying techy stuff? One minute my husband is buying computer books and the next it is an sd card. He has all these cables, gadgets and books but I never seem to see him using them. All I know is that they cost money and take up space. A good thing to do would be to sell some of the stuff that he no longer uses. Then we could make some money back and have less clutter around. I am really pleased with how much income we have at the moment but wouldn't complain if we could make even more money as it is always welcome to pay off more mortgage or buy more premium bonds.

Diet Pills
It always amazes me how many diet pills there are on the market. With the economy how it is you would think that it would be much cheaper to just eat a healthy diet and exercise more than buy expensive supplements such as Leptovox. I know that dieting is hard - I have lost several stone about 3 times as I put it back on again but this time I am determined to work really hard to stay fit and healthy and keep the weight off. I think it is the motivation for dieting that is the key factor in success not the method that you use. I know that now I am 35 I really need to start looking after myself and with my mothers recent heart scare it has hit home that if I want to stop myself being at risk I need to stay fit and healthy. Her family have a history of heart problems and cancer and I do not want either, so I use this as motivation. I do have treats but I am far better than I used to be and also much more aware of keeping my family healthy too.

Value for Money
I talk to quite a lot of people who are finding things tough at the moment and do not have a lot of money to spend. I find it interesting that they tend to but extremely cheap things which wear out very quickly and then have to replace them. They think that is a good thing to do but if you add up the cost of that item over a year you will probably find that spending a little more in the first place would mean it would last longer and cost less in the long run. For example I would buy a Audemars Piguet watch than a cheap thing form a market and get a whole life's worth of use out of it than just a years.

More Money Off the Mortgage
We paid another £1000 off the mortgage today. That makes a total of £2000 this month which is fantastic. We had some money in a savings account which was earning nearly no interest, so we decided to move it over. It feels like we are making really good progress on it which is really good.

Money Off Mortgage
I managed to pay £1000 off the mortgage yesterday. It is a great feeling that even after Christmas with some extra spending that I can afford to do this. We still owe £83776.52 and are way off target for paying of by the end of 2012 but I still see it as a step in the right direction. Work is a bit quieter now too, but I have some ongoing stuff which should help. I have just calculated that I need to pay off £1745.34 a month to reach my target. That is a tall order but if my husband keeps getting put on call and making a little extra that way, my income continues to be good and interest rates stay low or even fall again, we should be doing well.

New Year Cleaning
I feel like I need some safety equipment in the house at the moment. My husband is having a sort out of this things and there are big piles of books everywhere to try to navigate around. I am pleased that I have managed to talk him out of spending some money on buying a new filing cabinet though - we do have a lot of money at the moment, but once the bills get paid tomorrow I am hoping I can use the rest to pay a nice significant chunk off the mortgage.
