Boring or Practical?

When I buy gifts for people I always prefer to get things that will be useful. I get things that I feel they need and maybe cannot afford. This is because I often feel that they need help with buying these things. However, I know a lot of people who would rather have fun gifts for their birthday. They would rather have things that they would not normally buy and so they have a treat. personally I would prefer a pot & pan organizer than a DVD or CD, but perhaps I am just very different to other people. I do not really treat myself to much as I feel the money is better spent on necessities so that I can save up for the really big luxuries like house improvements or holidays.

I too am the kind of person that prefers practical gifts. A friend once bought me a fold up steamer (one that you put over a pan of boiling water). It probably cost around £5 and it's the best thing since sliced bread! I try and get practical gifts for others too although as you say, those aren't everyone's cup of tea.
